Oklahoma Sooners vs West Virginia Mountaineers is an exciting Fiesta Bowl match-up between the power house Big-12 conferences Sooners against the Big East’s No.9 ranked representative . Was West Virginia’s (6-6 ATS) late season implode an aberration or was it legitimate? BodogLife.com has the Oklahoma Sooners as -7.5 point football betting favorites.
Having spread offense West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriquez leave for the Michigan head coaching job before facing Oklahoma (7-6 ATS) in a bowl game won’t help the Mountaineers offensive problems either. Throw into the mix that QB Pat White is questionable to even play with a hand injury and RB Steve Slaton inability to find holes behind a mediocre offensive line, and the fat +7.5 points that WVU is getting doesn’t look too enticing any longer. Slaton will have a difficult time finding room against a suffocating Sooners run defense that is allowing 91.9 yards per game. BodogLife.com has the TOTAL at 63 points.
On offense Oklahoma is a force that is well-rounded averaging 43.4 yards per game. The Mountaineers run an awkward 3-3-5 defensive set that is led by a gang tackling trio of linebackers that is allowing only 2.9 yards per carry to opposing backs. The Sooners RB’s Chris Brown and Allen Patrick are a potent 1-2 tandem that runs behind a dominant O-line that will challenge the Mountaineers. West Virginia’s Pat White is listed as questionable but he is expected to play. White, who finished 6th in the Heisman voting can be a menacing offensive threat with his ability to do damage with his arm and legs. If White can’t go his replacement Jarret Brown has similar tools but his lack of experience will hurt him against Oklahoma’s swarming defense.
