The Green Bay Packers will host the hated Chicago Bears today as they attempt to lock up a Wild Card spot in the NFC Playoffs. The two age old rivals are scheduled to take the gridiron at Lambeau Field at 4:15pm ET today; the skirmish will be broadcast live on FOX. Smith, despite having locked up the NFC North title and a first round bye in the playoffs, has said he will play his starters today against the Packers.
Smith has not mentioned how long they might be on the field, but that will, most likely, depend upon the results of the Carolina/Atlanta and Tampa Bay/New Orleans games. If the Falcons and Saints both lose — those two contests kickoff before the Chicago/Green Bay game — the Bears can garner the top seed in the NFC with a win over the Pack.
If both one or both of those teams win, expect the Bears to lose some bite with the two seed already in hand.
The formula for Green Bay, which throttled the Giants 45-17 at Lambeau last Sunday to snap a two game skid, is simple. Win and the Packers are in the playoffs as the six seed.
Obviously, with a postseason berth at stake, Green Bay will have its starters in this game wire to wire, regardless of what Chicago has planned.
If the Packers are able to take out their NFC North brethren, they can start preparing for a road trip to Philadelphia, which has secured the three seed no matter it does against Dallas. Green Bay beat Philadelphia 27-20 at Lincoln Financial Field in its season opener.
