Both Ball State and Tulsa were highly ranked during much of the season and were considered potential BCS busters. Each school was upset in their respective conference championship games. While losing their last game was disastrous for Tulsa and Ball State in their bowl pursuits, the GMAC Bowl ended up with a fantastic matchup as a result.

Tulsa’s offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and author of the Golden Hurricane’s offensive philosophy is also moving on to the same position at Auburn. Malzahn will be on hand to coach the offense in tonight’s game.
