Colts Peyton Manning Wins 2009 NFL MVP: On Saturday morning, The Associated Press announced that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning became the first player ever to win NFL Most Valuable Player Award four times (2003, 2004, 2008, and 2009). Manning received 39½ votes from the 50 sports writers and broadcasters, easily beating out New Orleans Saints signal-caller, Drew Brees who tallied 7½ votes.
The 2009 NFL MVP breaks Manning’s tie with three-time Most Valuable Player, Brett Favre, as the 33-year-old now stands alone in history. "It's been a different season," Manning stated. "Like I've said all along, it's been a challenge, it's been a grind at times, but guys have stepped up and played well."
Manning threw for 4,500 yards and 33 touchdowns this season, as the Colts were perfect through 14 NFL Weeks. The best part is that Manning is nowhere near done writing his legacy.
No one more so than Manning, who threw for 4,500 and 33 touchdowns and, perhaps most impressively, led the Colts to a record seven fourth-quarter comeback wins.
"He's been such a highly accomplished performer year in and year out. Just when you think you've seen his best, he improves upon it," first-year head coach Jim Caldwell said. "This year is one of those in terms of when you look at his numbers and how he's been able to play consistently well over a long period of time. It's been remarkable.
"I think a lot of it has to do with his drive. He just has an innate sort of will to excel. He never gets bored with it. That, I think, is highly unusual."
