The Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles are set for a rematch of their week one dust up at Lincoln Financial Field, only this time the stakes are much higher. The two NFC stalwarts will attempt to advance to the divisional round of the playoffs with a victory in today's Wild Card showdown. The game is scheduled to get underway at 4:30pm ET on FOX. 2011 NFL Playoff Picks have the Eagles listed as a -2.5 against the spread home favorite; the Over/Under is set at 46.5.
The general consensus when the Packers
and Eagles met in the season opener was that the game could represent a potential playoff matchup. That thought has now turned into a reality as the two teams prepare for this afternoon's Wild Card game.
The course by which the two teams garnered postseason berths went anything but according to plan, though. Philadelphia, which won the NFC East with a 10-6 record, turned to Michael Vick after Kevin Kolb went down with a concussion against Green Bay. Vick put together a completely unexpected MVP type season, throwing for 3018 yards and 21 touchdowns while rushing for 676 yards and nine scores.
The Packers were expected to win the NFC North, but a rash of injuries to key players led to a 3-3 start, putting the team's division title hopes in peril. Green Bay rallied to win seven of its last 10, but its efforts garnered the sixth seed in the NFC, not the NFC North crown.
Aaron Rodgers and company won back to back games to close out the season, including a week 16 45-17 drubbing of the Giants at Lambeau. The Packers struggled away from home, though, going 3-5 outside of Wisconsin. Green Bay, which averaged a paltry 18 points per game on the road, is 0-3 in its last three away games, losing to the Falcons, Lions, and Patriots.
Philadelphia wrapped up the NFC East crown thanks to a dramatic 38-31 come from behind win at New York in week 15, but the Eagles limped into the postseason with back to back home losses to Minnesota and Dallas.
Vick had a rough outing against the Vikings and sat out the finale against the Cowboys, but he is said to be healthy and well rested for today's game.
The Eagles are 4-4 at Lincoln Financial Field, where Vick owns an 89.4 passer rating.
