2013 BCS Odds: In spite of their lopsided 21-0 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the 2012 BCS Championship Game Monday night, the LSU Tigers are listed favorites at 4-to-1 (+400) odds on the College Football Odds futures board at online sports-book Bovada.lv (formerly Bodog) to win the 2013 BCS Championship. Alabama is getting 5-to-1 (+500) odds as runner up.
The likelyhood Alabama repeats as BCS champs in 2013 are less, considering the Crimson Tide are expected to lose a large group of juniors and seniors to the 2012 NFL Draft this April. LSU loses it’s starting QB Jordan Jefferson but has a couple of top freshman red-shirts ready to step in. Word on the street is that Jerrard Randall, of Hollywood, Florida, Mirimar High School is the best QB prospect to come along in a long time. The majority of this years LSU squad also return’s next season.
Expectations for Southern California winning the 2013 BCS will be very high installed at 9-to-1 odds. Florida State, Georgia, Oklahoma and Oregon are all getting 12-to-1 followed by Arkansas and Notre Dame at 18-to-1. Michigan backers are getting 20-to-1 odds to win the 2013 BCS while Virginia Tech is getting 25-to-1.
Florida, South Carolina, and West Virginia are installed at 30-to-1 odds with Kansas State and Nebraska getting 35-to-1.
Oddsmakers install futures odds like these based on a combination of things but a big factor is public’s perception. Probably the biggest myth in this board is USC getting 9/1 odds to win the championship. This is a team that’s been hit hard with scholarship restrictions that will begin to show soon. While the Trojans have a good quarterback, is that enough to project them in the top-3? Notre Dame is another school overrated because of perception. Some folks just don’t get it; that the Irish are not what they once were.
