Mark it as official; Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy are all returning to their respective schools for another year of college football. And it appears we are set for the mother of all battles for the 2009 Heisman Trophy. The odds are better than ever we will have a two time winner. If that happens, it will only be the second time the Heisman Trophy has gone to the same player twice. Archie Griffin of Ohio State won the Heisman Trophy twice in back to back years (1973-74).
The news of the quarterback trio shunning the NFL Draft and returning to college has not gone unnoticed by oddsmakers either. Sports odds professionals at BetUS.com jumped on the news quickly and posted odds on their chances of winning the 2009 Heisman Trophy.
Tebow, who also won in 2007, has the best chance at -130 odds (moneyline format) while Bradford the 2008 winner is second at +120 followed by McCoy at +300.
“The Heisman will be Tebow’s to lose in 2009,” said sports handicapper Reno Gold. “I don’t think there is any doubt that the best player in college football is Tebow. For that matter, folks are talking him up as possibly the best in history.”
Bradford’s road to the Heisman will not be as clear as in 2008 according to Gold because of attrition. “He will not have as many great players around him next year.
