Superbowl 2010 Predictions: Indianapolis Colts beat the Minnesota Vikings 10 to 1 Odds: Everyone that knows even a little about football knows that "defense wins championships". Despite having the best quarterback in the league and an offense that can explode at any moments, that cliché is also true even to the Indianapolis Colts. This was evident when the AFC South champs blew out the Baltimore Ravens in last week’s divisional game, a game in which coach Jim Caldwell asked his defense to play faster.

It’s no mystery that if the Colts are to reach the Super Bowl, they’re going to need more of that. But what would happen in the case that Indy meets another defensive powerhouse with a crafty quarterback named Brett Favre early next month in Miami? Superbowl 2010 Predictions experts at BODOG.com believe that the odds of the Indianapolis Colts meeting and beating the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XLIV are 10 to 1.

“That was one of our goals,” Caldwell said after his defense dominated the bruising Ravens attack to just 87 yards and two rushing first downs last week. “I really believe in speed, particularly at a time of the year when maybe you can gain a step or two. I’d rather give up a little in preparation if you can pick up a step or two because you can make up for a mistake.”

After finishing the season ranked 24th against the run and 18 overall, the Colts defense practically shut down a running game that ran up 234 yards the prior week at New England. Caldwell’s philosophy is that faster is better, and if they were to meet the Vikings in the Superbowl, this would remain the same.

“I remember last week (assistant head coach) Clyde (Christensen) and I were talking at practice and I said, ‘Did that (practice) seem fast out there today?”’ Caldwell recalled. “He said, ‘I think so.’ I think the practices we had gave them a taste of what was going to happen on game day.”

But before worrying about the possibility of facing the Vikings in the Superbowl, Indy first has to win this Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the stingy and improbable, New York Jets. This will be only the second AFC title game ever held in Indianapolis.

“I told them we wanted to end the regular season fresh, ready and well prepared,” Caldwell added. “I believe we did. It doesn’t give you any guarantees. It’s what you believe in and your convictions and playing well when it comes time.”
