2012 AFC Championship Game Point Spreads

patriots brady ravens lewisThe right to appear in Super Bowl XLVI is on the line this afternoon in Foxboro as the Patriots tangle with AFC North champion Baltimore at Gillette Stadium. The odds makers are firmly in New England’s corner as the Pats can be found anywhere from a -7 to a -9 against the spread home favorite. If you are uneasy about that line, there are plenty of alternative 2012 AFC Championship Game Point Spreads to be found, including First and Second Half Lines as well as First through Fourth Quarter Lines.

First Half Line: New England -4.5 (-105)

The Patriots were outscored in the first half  at home just two times this year and both of those occurrences happened in the final two weeks of the regular season against division rivals Miami and Buffalo. Despite those two instances, the Patriots outscored their opposition by an average of 4.9 points in the first half of home games this season. Baltimore, while losing half of its road games this year, outpaced its hosting competition in the first two quarters by an average of 3.2 points. In the Ravens four losses, though, they trailed at the half by an average of seven points. The only setback they experienced that did not involve a halftime deficit was a week two loss at Tennessee where they were tied 10-10 with the Titans at the break.

Some are inclined to believe Baltimore has what it takes to knock off the Patriots today, earning the franchise its second AFC Championship. I, as I’ve stated throughout the week, am not in that camp. New England, in my estimation, will start fast, eliminating any negative feelings from the last postseason encounter between these two at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots, I believe, will hand Baltimore its fifth loss of the season and I believe they will hold at least a seven point lead at the break.
