2012 NFC Championship Game Point Spreads

giants tuck niners smithThe San Francisco 49ers welcome the New York Giants to Candlestick Park this evening as the two teams look to stay in the chase for a Super Bowl victory. Both teams are solid on all fronts and each is playing with a great deal of momentum after scoring a huge divisional round victory. As a result, many are stuck on which way to go, the Giants at +3 or the 49ers as -3 against the spread home favorite. If the latest 2012 NFC Championship Game Point Spreads leave you second guessing yourself, maybe an Over/Under play is the way to go in tonight’s highly anticipated showdown between the Giants and Niners.

New York Giants vs San Francisco 49ers: Over 42 points

The total on a New York road game has not been Under 42 points all season so why should it finish there this evening? The average game score of a Giants away outing was a staggering 53.3 points. One might suspect, given the 49ers stingy defense, that the average total in their home games would be a low one, and it is by some standards at 41.8 points; however, five of San Francisco’s nine home outings exceeded that number and it did on each occasion that Jim Harbaugh’s troops hosted a winning team. The Niners not only welcome a winner to town today, they will host a club that has scored under 24 points just one time in its last eight games. If the Giants hit that mark today and San Francisco finishes anywhere near its 28.5 point per game average at home, this game will sail past the posted 42 point total.

Some note-worthy totals trends for today’s NFC Championship Game:

The Over is 7-3 in the Niners last 10 games as a home favorite with a spread between 0 and 3.5.
The Over is 8-2 in the Giants last 10 games as a road dog with a total between 41.5 and 44.
Five of the last six NFC Championship Games have exceeded today’s 42 point line.
