They will wear their college football helmets one last time Saturday night when selected college seniors compete in the 60th annual Under Armor Senior Bowl at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. The game also marks the final time college football enthusiasts can bet on a college football event until the 2009 season begins next September. The game will be televised on NFL Network with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Eastern.
The teams are made up of the best NFL prospects that have finished their college eligibility following the 2008 season. The players are divided into two teams, the North and South.
Sports odds professionals at online sportsbook BetUS.com list South team as 3-chalk ATS and -155 moneyline favorite with a 41 total. North team backers are getting +135 moneyline odds as the underdog.
Neither team can complain about a lack of talent. The game also gives players the opportunity to perform for a week in practice in front of NFL scouts and to be coached by NFL coaches.
Jack Del Rio, coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, will coach the South while Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis will coach the North.
Graham Harrell is expected to get the start at quarterback for the North while Patrick White of West Virginia will quarterback the South.
Who will win? Sports-Odds.com predicts the South will prevail today mostly because of who is playing on defense. It is difficult to install a workable offense in one week often giving defenses the edge. What give the South a leg up are three USC linebackers, Rey Maualuga, Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews. These three are already a formidable force used to playing together.
