Crazy Super Bowl Bets on Ben Roethlisberger: When you talk about the greatest Super Bowl quarterback performers in history — Joe Namath, John Elway, Joe Montana, Troy Aikman and more — why isn’t the name Ben Roethlisberger mentioned among those legendary Super Bowl champions?

Maybe because in his first appearance on the big stage, his effort left a lot to be desired, as he couldn’t shake off the butterflies. “They never went away,” said Roethlisberger of the nerves he experienced at Super Bowl XL. “It was crazy because if I do get nervous for a game they usually go away after the first play. For the Super Bowl it never went away. I think my play really showed it.”

In his first Super Bowl appearance, Big Ben completed just 9-of-21 passes, with no touchdowns, and two interceptions. Roethlisberger was so bad, that he recorded the lowest passer rating of his career, for any game in which he departed early due to injury, with an atrocious 22.6 passer rating. “You get the butterflies and feel weak. It’s hard to explain,” said Roethlisberger of his previous Super Bowl experience.

When asked if he believes his second trip to the Super Bowl will be perhaps more relaxing, Big Ben answered, “I hope so… I think the biggest thing is this is my fifth year. That was my second year, and everything was still kind of a big whirlwind. Hopefully being five years in and more of a veteran will help.”
