The most coveted position in college football is the quarterback position at the University of Southern California. It hasn't always been that way but during Pete Carroll's tenure at the PAC-10 school it certainly has. Tuesday night it was announced that sophomore quarterback Aaron Corp will start the USC Spring Game on Saturday (April 25) and will go into Fall drills as the No. 1 quarterback. Corp has been in a battle for the starting job with freshman Matt Barkley and junior Mitch Mustain.

"I'm really excited," Corp was quoted in the Los Angeles Times. "There's a lot of work ahead and I can't wait to get started. Corp said the opportunity is "A dream come true."

Corp's naming as starter is a bit surprising. Arkansas transfer Mitch Mustain was the "heir apparant" for the job following the departure of junior quarterback Mark Sanchez who entered the 2009 NFL Draft.

Barkley, whom left high school at Mater Dei High in Santa Anna, Calif., early to participate in spring drills has been named the second string backup with Mustain the third quarterback. Mustain was a High School Parade All-America at Springdale High School in Springdale, Ark., in 2004.
