The Detroit Lions and Matt Stafford came to an agreement Friday making the former Georgia Quarterback the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Sources say, terms of the agreement will pay Stafford $41.7-million in guaranteed money and as much as $78 million overall. This agreement ends any speculation as to whom will be taken first in Saturday's 2009 NFL Draft.

The Lions, a team with crucial needs throughout its lineup, went 0-16 last year. The fallout resulted in the organization bringing in a new coach and general manager. Now Detroit has settled on who it wants running the team on the field.
Stafford, at 6"3'235 lbs., is a big strong armed quarterback with excellent skills both mental and athletic. Stafford could have benefited from another year in college but his skill level dictates his move to the professional ranks. Stafford's down side is his on field decision making and is turnover prone. Stafford was 17-4 as a starter at Georgia.

The Lions have another pick in the NFL Draft first round with the 20th pick aquired from Dallas in 2008. With that pick, Detroit will most likely go with University of Mississippi offensive lineman Michael Oher. Detroit will be on the clock 13-picks later with the 33rd pick, first of the second round.
