2009 NFL Draft Prediction experts at online super-sports gambling site Sportsbook.com list Offensive Tackle Jason Smith of Baylor University at -500 moneyline format odds as the most likely candidate to be drafted second overall. Other prospects considered as a possible No. 2 pick are Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry (+400), Virginia OT Eugene Monroe (+400), Texas DL Brian Orakpo +2500 and Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree (+3000).
At 6'5" and weighing 305 lbs., Smith is considered a can't miss NFL offensive line prospect. Smith was a four-year starter anchoring Baylor's offensive line. Smith paved the way for 2,349 rushing yards at the school in 2008, a 251 per cent increase from 2007's rushing total of 934 yards. Smith earned First-Team All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America, third-team AP All-America and Rivals.com third-team.
Smith was a relatively unknown commodity outside of the Big 12 Conference. It was another Smith, Alabama's Andre Smith who was getting all the early attention for an offensive tackle. However; as the draft neared, it was Jason Smith whom every NFL team with offensive line needs was drooling after.
