After all the hoopla and controversy surrounding “Spygate”, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is trying to get back to business as usual. The commissioner has apparently come up with an idea/solution for the fan disinterest in NFL preseason football games: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell To Add 17th Game to Regular Season. BodogLife.com has the odds to win the 2008-2009 NFL Offensive/Defensive Rookie of the Year Awards. On Tuesday’s owners meeting in Atlanta, GA, the commissioner presented his idea of combating fan’s indifference towards preseason games. Goodell’s concept is to eliminate one preseason game (making it just 3) and in-turn, adding an extra NFL game to the regular season schedule, a 17th regular season game. One of the potential problems this could present is that, by adding a 17th game (to the now 16 game season), it makes it an odd number of games to be played. Goodell’s potential solution to this problem would be to allow the conferences to alternate between its teams hosting nine games in a season and its teams hosting eight games. Certainly, this move is presumed, to increase fan’s interest. However, Goodell is also looking at it, not only as a potential revenue increaser, but as an agent to smoother transitions of future collective bargaining agreements.
