America’s team the Dallas Cowboys are the big willies in the NFC East one year after the NY Giants showed the championship heart that earned them the 2008 Superbowl. The internet sportsbooks feel that the Giants Superbowl win was a fluke, and that the Cowboys are the truth of the division. Dallas is a team with no apparent weakness as the 2008 Cowboys head into the season at 6-1 NFL betting odds to win the 2009 Superbowl. The Dallas Cowboys are 5-8 NFL Betting Odds to win NFC East at Sportsbook.com.
This is my take of the teams in my NFL Betting Odds to win NFC West:
1. Dallas Cowboys – Jerry Jones has basically gone all out to bring a 2009 Superbowl title to America’s team. Some may wonder whether or not if last year’s late season stagger is an indicator pointing towards a drop off. After a strong off-season that saw the Cowboys losing minimal talent. The two first round draft pick Felix Jones will replace backup RB Julius Jones on offense. On defense the Cowboys are upgraded with 1st rounder CB Mike Jenkins. The Dallas Cowboys were 9-7 ATS last season.
2. NY Giants- You call feel NY Giants head coach Tom Coughlin growing more anxious by the minute as he knows his team is still admiring there rings with 55 days until preseason. With Dallas as chalk the NY Giants will have to fly on the right arm of Eli Manning and pound Brandon Jacobs again. Gone are DE Michael Strahan LB Kawika Mitchell and S Gibril Wilson. The Giants defense that ranked 8th in yards 17th in scoring last season has taken some lumps, but the nucleus on the 14th scoring ranked offense is still intact. The NY Giants are 7-2 to win the 2008 NFC EAST title. The NY Giants were 10-6 ATS last season.
3. Philadelphia Eagles- Last year Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid took some lumps on his way to a .500 season but going against Reid after a non-winning season could be a dicey bet. Reid added a shutdown corner in Asante Samuel and a pass-rush specialist in Chris Clemons (8.0 sacks 07"). The team is aging and this might be 10th year veteran Donovan McNabb’s last shot. Brian Westbrook is the engine that makes the Philadelphia offense go (6th in yards 17th in scoring). The Eagles still need more weapons but 2nd round pick WR DeSean Jackson is a home run hitter. Philadelphia’s 2007 defense that was solid (10th yards, 9th scoring) gets upgraded with CB Asante Samuel teaming in the secondary with Brian Dawkins. The Philadelphia Eagles are 7-2 NFL betting odds to NFC East title. The Philadelphia Eagles were 8-8 ATS last season.
4. Washington Redskins- After a year off grief with the death of Sean Taylor the 2008 Redskins will have a new look with West-Coast offense minded coach Jim Zorn. Jim Zorn will try to show the new system to improving Washington QB Jason Campbell. Workhorse skins RB Clinton Portis is excited about the system and its potential. Campbell has a sound O-line and dangerous west coast receivers that could improve on last year’s offensive stats (15th in yards 20th in scoring). Washington had a very productive defense last season (7th in yards 11th in scoring) but the D-Line is suspect this year. The Redskins have a solid core of linebackers and a playmaking SS in LaRon Landry. The skins might be a little slow early out with the new system so look at bets against them early in the season. The Washington Redskins are 8-1 to win the 2008 NFC EAST title. The Washington Redskins were 7-7-2 ATS last season.
