A dismal 0-4 start threw the 2007 New Orleans Saints season in a hole that the team is determined to reverse after last year’s 7-9 flop. The Saints 26th ranked defense was too much for Drew Brees to overcome for much of the season so the Saints from office went shopping for defense. With defensive upgraded and the rest of the division vanilla, the 2008 New Orleans Saints look primed for a 10-6 season and a run deep into the playoffs. The NFL betting odds to win the NFC South favor the New Orleans Saints at reasonably priced 10-11 chalk at Bodoglife.com.

NFL Betting Odds to win NFC SouthThis is my take of the teams in my NFL Betting Odds to win NFC South:

1. New Orleans Saints- After a disappointing 7-9 2007 season the Saints have shored up some major holes on defense and hope to be partying N.O style in February. Some of the new arrivals are former Miami Hurricane LB’s Dan Morgan and Jonathan Vilma. Also picked up #7 overall in the NFL draft is Sedrick Ellis, 6-1 309, who is an active run plugger. Also picked up in the secondary were solid corners Randall Gay and Aaron Glenn. If the new defensive additions prove to be worth the price Drew Brees and Reggie Bush will blowout this division. The NFL betting odds to win the NFC South is New Orleans Saints 10-11. The New Orleans Saints were a money burning 6-10 ATS last season.

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have home-field advantage in the Superbowl in 2009 but will they be watching or playing? 38-year old heady veteran QB Jeff Garcia will lead the Bucs squad after finishing 9-7 in 2007. Last year Tampa had a terrific season on the defensive side of the ball finishing 2nd in yards allowed and 3rd in scoring. If Jon Gruden can get a healthy Cadillac Williams, Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn running back  trio clicking this team could go deep into the. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are at 5-2 odds to win the 2008 NFC South title. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were 9-7 ATS last season.

3. Carolina Panthers - The Carolina Panthers are coming off two lackluster seasons after going 7-9 last season. Carolina coach John Fox is banking on QB Jake Delhomme to be fully recovered from elbow surgery after a sub-par 2007 season. The Panthers helped themselves in the running game when they drafted 5'10  233 LB. RB Jonathan Stewart. Stewart has a blend of 4.41 speed and power that could make an instant impact on Carolina’s offense. As long as all-world WR Steve Smith is on the field Carolina’s offense will be dangerous, keeping the 5'9  Smith on the field deep in the season is the question. On defense MLB Jon Beason leads a solid Carolina defense that ranked 16th in yards allowed and 15th in scoring. The Panthers are looking for more production from high-priced DE Julius Peppers who recorded just 2.5 sacks last season. The Carolina Panthers are at 5-2 NFL betting odds to win NFC South title. The Carolina Panthers were an average 8-8 ATS last season.

4. - Atlanta Falcons- The Falcons may be the worst team in the 2008 season but in the future, first round pick QB Matt Ryan will have the chance to make fans forget the Mike Vick experience. The a complete overhaul the Atlanta Falcons are in rebuilding mode. The Falcons picked up a marquee RB in the off-season by acquiring 5'10  237 LB. Michael Turner from San Diego. Another emerging talent on the offense is WR Roddy White who was one of the top pass catchers in the NFL last season. Atlanta’s 29th ranked defense has some potential with a mean set of linebackers but the departure of All-Pro CB DeAngelo Hall will sting. Don’t expect much from the Falcons who are lead by an unproven new coach Mike Smith, and a limited journeyman QB in Mike Redman.  The Atlanta Falcons are at 12-1 NFL betting odds to win NFC South title. The Atlanta Falcons were a surprising 8-8 ATS last season.
