NFL Betting: Buffalo Bills AFC East Preview

by Steve Hastings on Saturday, June 28th, 2008

The Buffalo Bills were a little bit Jekyll and a little bit Hyde in 2007. Had they not played in the AFC East, Buffalo probably would not have seen Jekyll at all. While the Bills did win six of eight games at one point last season, three of those wins came at the expense of the Jets and Dolphins. It looks like people are expecting the same 'middle of the road' type Bills in 2008. NFL Betting odds at BodogLife.com currently have Buffalo at 35/1 odds to win the AFC title.

Looking at the Bills 2007 numbers, it is a miracle that they got to seven wins. They ranked thirtieth in the league in scoring, total yardage, and passing yardage. Running back Marshawn Lynch provided a bright spot as a rookie, but who knows how his current legal troubles will effect him in 2008. The quarterback situation appears to be somewhat tenuous as well with Trent Edwards and J.P. Losman vying to be the starter. Buffalo did spend five picks on the offensive side of the football in the draft. Club officials are no doubt hoping those players can come in and be productive from the get go.

Defensively the Bills ranked eighteenth in the league, allowing 22.1 points per game. They faired poorly against the run and pass, ranking twenty-fifth and twenty-ninth respectively. However, the squad kept themselves in games by generating 30 turnovers. In the off-season they added defensive tackle Marcus Stroud, linebacker Kawika Mitchell and they drafted cornerback Leodis McKelvin out of Troy State. Stroud is a major inside producer and should, along with Mitchell, help shore up the Buffalo rush defense.

NFL Betting odds at Bodoglife.com are giving the Bills 8/1 odds to win the AFC East and 65/1 odds to win the Super Bowl.
