NCAA Football Mississippi Rebels SEC Preview 2008: In his first year as head coach of the Mississippi Rebels, Houston Nutt (111-70 overall), appears to be stepping into a better situation than most people anticipate. BetUS.com has all the NCAA Football betting odds for the upcoming 2008 season, including the Mississippi Rebels’.
Former head coach, Ed Ogeron, who was fired after last season for not producing results, did one thing right: he recruited talented players. However, in order for the Ole Miss faithful to see some significant results, they might have to wait another year in a tough conference like the SEC. NCAA Football Betting Odds for the Mississippi Rebels to win the SEC in 2008 are dim, +6500.
Returning key players (left in place by former head coach Ed Ogeron) who led the Ole Miss in 2008 are: WR Mike Wallace (716 receiving yards), LB Ashlee Palmer (89 tackles), DE Greg Hardy (10 sacks), and LB Ashlee Palmer (with 3 INTs).
Defensive coordinator, Tyrone Nix, has to be licking his chops at the opportunity to develop a great talented player like DE Greg Hardy.
Last season, Hardy, who wasn’t even a starter managed to lead the team in sacks (2nd in the SEC), and in-turn gained some very valuable experience and leadership skills.
I look for Hardy to have a monster season much like last year. Now, Hardy, along with DE Marcus Tillman guarding the other side of the line, and Peria Jerry smack in the middle, Ole Miss has plenty of dangerous experienced players available. And this upcoming season, the "D" will definetly be their strongest team for coach Nutt.
The biggest question mark for Ole Miss will be on the offense, more specifically the QB position. Ex-Texas’ QB, Jevan Snead, will be running offensive coordinator, Ken Austin’s system. The kid will have a lot to live up to after making the transfer to Mississippi.
