Early last season it looked like the Norv Turner experiment would be a failure in Charger land. The team lost three of their first four games, but they rebounded by winning their last six. The Chargers continued their recent offensive surge last season by cranking out 25.8 points per game. Quarterback Philip Rivers did not post overwhelming numbers, but he got the job done when he needed to. He will still have plenty of targets in TE Antonio Gates and receivers Chris Chambers and Vincent Jackson.

San Diego's attack will continue to center around All-Pro runnning back LaDainian Tomlinson who rushed for almost 1500 yards last season. However, San Diego will not have Michael Turner to fall back on this year as he departed to Atlanta in the off season. That said, fourth year player Darren Sproles should fill in admirably as Tomlinson's new backup.

The Charger defense was dominating at times last year and they consistently held opposing offenses in check (allowed just 17.8 points per game). They should be as good or better this season with Jamal Williams still plugging the middle and speed rushers Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips pressuring the quarterback. The team also added heralded cornerback Antoine Cason through the draft and former 49er linebacker Derek Smith via free agency.
