College Football Predictions Louisville Cardinals Big East Conference 2008: The 2007 campaign wasn’t exactly ideal for first year head coach, Steve Kragthorpe (35-28 overall). Last year, the Louisville Cardinals ended their season on a sour note, as they finished with a disappointing 6-6 (3-4) record, and for the first time since 1997 missed out on a Bowl game. BetUS.com has the College Football Predictions: Louisville Cardinals Betting odds to win BCS Championship game in 2009 aren’t very good: +8000.
This upcoming season doesn’t look all that great for the Cards, as they’ll have a limited amount of returning players on both sides of the ball. The Louisville Cardinals’ College Football Betting odds to win the Big East Conference in 2008 are a long shot: +1400.
This upcoming 2008 season, the Cardinals will have to deal with incorporating new talent with the few returning upperclassmen.
Some of the key returnees for offensive coordinator, Jeff Brohm, will be: FB Brock Bolen, WR Scott Long, C Erik Wood, and QB Hunter Cantwell.
For the Louisville offense, even though they did loose starting QB Brian Brohm, back up QB Hunter Cantwell is certainly no slouch. Cantwell should be able to come in and evolve into a solid leader, as he is more than capable of running this offense.
WR Scott Long will have to step up and become the go-to-guy for Louisville to succeed. In addition to Long, WR Trent Guy is certainly not a bad second option for Cantwell to count on.
However, the Achilles heel for the Cardinals will continue to be on the defensive end. Defensive coordinator, Ron English, must figure something out in order to improve a defense that last year ranked among the lowest in every major defensive category in the Big East Conference.
