The Green Bay Packers shocked almost everyone by finishing 13-3 in 2007. Their unlikely regular season performance built expectations for a strong postseason run that fans hoped would be capped off by Super Bowl win. Packer dreams and ,possibly, Brett Favre's storied career ended at the NFC Championship Game as the team fell to the Giants 23-20 in OT. NFL Betting odds at BodogLife.com list Green Bay at 8/1 odds of returning to the NFC Championship and winning it.

Packer coach Mike McCarthy turned Green Bay into an offensive powerhouse in his second season as head coach. The Pack dropped 27.4 points per game on opponents last year and aired out 271 yards passing per game. Brett Favre rebounded from a sub-par 2006 to have a spectacular 95.7 quarterback rating in McCarthy's second season. Favre, who retired in the off season, will turn over command to four year veteran Aaron Rodgers in 2008.NFL Predictions: Green Bay Packers NFC North Preview

Rodgers played well in two starts last year but he is largely unproven. The former Cal star will have no shortage of talent around him though. Receivers Donald Driver and Greg Jennings along with tight end Donald Lee are more than capable targets. The team also added Kansas State standout receiver Jordy Nelson with their first round pick. Protecting Rodgers will be a line that only allowed 19 sacks last year.

Green Bay's backfield, while only producing 99.8 yards per game in 2007, is still solid. Leading the way will be breakout performer Ryan Grant. Grant averaged 5.1 yards per carry out of nowhere last season and scored eight touchdowns as well. The Packers will be expecting bigger numbers from him in 2008 as he will be the starter from day one.

While Green Bay's offense took center stage, their defense quietly built a reputation as a tough, hard hitting bunch. Packer defenders held opponents to 18.2 points per game and just 313.3 yards per game. The defense has a plethora of returning stars and there were no major departures in the off season.

Defensive end Aaron Kampman, linebacker AJ Hawk, and cornerback Charles Woodson should lead the the defense to even better numbers next season. The team's solid mix of veterans and young talent make this a group to watch in 2008.

NFL Betting odds at BodogLife.com list the Packers at 25/1 odds to win the Super Bowl and 7/4 odds to win the NFC North. The team's win total is set at 8 with the over a -130.
