College Football Predictions Wake Forest Demon Deacons: In the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have proven to be real contenders over the past several years. Wake Forest is coming off another successful season, finishing 2007 with an overall mark of 9-4 (5-3), including a 24-10 win over Connecticut in the Meineke Bowl. At BetUS.com Wake Forests’ betting odds to win the BCS Championship game in 2009 are +10,000. In the upcoming season, head coach Jim Grobe (46-39 at WF, 79-72-1 overall), will try to take the next step for his football team. Grobe will be counting on his best offensive and defensive players to come back to the program this season. For defensive coordinator, Brad Lambert, he will have a great bunch pf kids to work with, including 9 returning starters. Last season, the Wake Forest defense surrendered just 22.2 points per game, which ranked 27th in the nation, and 6th in the ACC. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons’ betting odds to win the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2008 are +600. The return of starting QB Riley Skinner is a great asset to Steed Lobotzke’s offensive scheme. Last year Skinner threw for 2,204 yards and led the NCAA with a 72.4 completion rate. This year, Skinner will have yet another effective weapon on offense, RB Josh Adams. Last season as a freshman, Adams rushed for 953 yards and 11 TDs, and in-turn, gained some very valuable experience. Therefore, with an efficient QB, a solid TE (Ben Wooster), and a decent RB, Wake Forests’ chances are looking better and better. The only reason for concern would be injuries. The Demon Deacons are extremely thin in some positions in the depth chart.
