North Carolina Tar Heels ACC Preview 2008 College Football Predictions: After a disappointing 4-8 (3-5) 2007 season, ex-Miami Hurricanes’ head coach Butch Davis (4-8, 51-20) has nowhere else to go but up. Davis will have plenty to smile about this upcoming 2008 season at UNC. The North Carolina Tar Heels’ betting odds to win the ACC in 2008 are +800.

The Tar Heels, Butch Davis, and offensive coordinator John Shoop, all have to be thrilled with the return of starting QB T.J. Yates. Last season, Yates threw for 2,655 yards and 14 TD, completed almost 60% of his passes.

In 2008, Yates will be even better considering he put up those numbers during his rookie campaign. The biggest improvement Tar Heel fans can expect from the young Yates, will be in the INT department.

Last season T.J. Yates threw 18 interceptions in his freshman year. The only issue for Yates will be his health. Last season, Yates missed some playing time due to shoulder surgery.

Even though a 4-8 (3-5) record isn’t too impressive for coach Davis in his first year at the helm, he did accomplish other feats that mark will not show: UNC defeated the Miami Hurricanes as well as Maryland.

However, if there’s a weak side to UNC’s team this upcoming season, it’ll certainly be on defense. Many places are yet to be filled in the D-line with the departure of Balmer and Taylor. Last year’s leading rusher, Johnny White, has been moved to the CB position to replace Jordan Hemby.
