Kansas State Wildcats Big 12 Preview 2008 College Football Predictions: Not being able to improve from the 2006 season, Kansas State regressed in 2007 by finishing with a poor 5-7 (3-5) record. Third year Kansas State Wildcats head coach, Ron Price (12-13 at K-State and overall), made the necessary adjustments in player personnel to avoid another letdown season. At SportsBook.com the Kansas State Wildcats’ betting odds to win the BCS National Championship game in 2009 are 100 - 1. First and foremost, one of the brightest spot in the Wildcats’ roster is the return of 19 defensive players who started in 1 or more games last season. Of course with so many players getting plating time, this can only mean one thing: the defense struggled to find consistency. The Kansas State Wildcats’ betting odds to win the Big 12 Conference in 2008 are 40 - 1. Even though QB Josh Freeman had a great season last year throwing for 3,353 yards, the problem this year will be: who is going to catch his passes with Jordy Nelson gone? Nelson was selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Last season, Nelson was the single player most responsible for Freeman putting up those numbers: catching 122 passes for 1,606 yards. If Senior WR Deon Murphy can step up and become that reliable option for Freeman to throw to, they’ll be in good shape. Last year, Murphy was the second leading receiver for K-State behind Nelson, as he caught 57 passes for a total of 605 receiving yards.
