Washington Huskies 2009 College Football Predictions, Picks & Odds: New head football coach Steve Sarkisian’s specialty fits right into Washington’s best player. Quarterback Jake Locker is good dual-threat quarterbacks who can make things happen with his arm and his feet. The Huskies need help; will a current 14 game losing streak dating back to 2007 under Tyrone Willingham, currently the longest in the nation. Coach Sarkisian spent 2007 and 2008 as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at USC and that experience should turn the Huskies into a power once again, but it will take a while as they are currently by far the worst in the PAC-10. Odds makers at Sportsbook.com have college football predictions on the Washington Huskies listed at 150 to 1 odds to win the BSC 2010 National Championship.
Offensively Washington should be better as Locker missed nearly the entire 2008 season due to an injury and now he is healthy and ready to turn around what was one of the worst offensive teams in the nation. Running back Chris Polk is full of potential and the redshirt freshman could be starting from day one. There are even some decent young receivers D’Andre Goodwin was a favorite target a year ago and sophomore Jermaine Kearse could emerge as the team’s much needed deep threat. There is a lot of rebuilding to be done as the Huskies ranked near the bottom of every statistical category in 2008. Sportsbook.com has college football picks on the Washington Huskies listed at +5000 odds to win the PAC-10 Conference.
The Huskies defense will build around dependable senior Daniel Te’o-Nesheim, who will shift between end and tackle and and senior linebacker E.J. Savannah, respectively — are back after either missing most of last season or all of it. Sarkisian also brought Pete Carroll’s defensive coordinator from USC; Nick Holt, who will have his hands full as the Huskies defense was pitiful as well in 2008.
The Huskies will undergo a complete makeover in the kicking game, turning to players with no game experience, always a risky deal. Untested sophomore Erik Folk, younger brother of the Dallas Cowboys’ Nick Folk, is the only scholarship place kicker available.
