Chiefs vs Ravens Odds 2011 NFL Week 2 Preseason

by Matt Foust on Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

The Chiefs looked as ugly as any team in the league last week, losing to the Buccaneers 25-0 at Arrowhead Stadium. Now Kansas City must face the team that eliminated it from last year's playoffs, the Ravens, in a week two exhibition showdown at M&T Bank Stadium. The poor showing has convinced oddmakers that another route may be in order on Friday as the Ravens are currently listed as a -7 against the spread home favorite. Chiefs Head Coach Todd Chiefs vs Ravens Odds 2011 NFL Week 2 PreseasonHaley has never put a huge emphasis on winning preseason games, as evidenced by the club's 1-8 exhibiton record under his watch. Last week's showing against the Bucs was a new low for Kansas City, though, and possibly preseason football in general.

The Chiefs managed all of six first downs and 137 yards of offense against Tampa Bay, but the misery did not end there for Haley's squad. Kansas City, which held the ball all of 20:33, also converted just one of its 10 third down opportunities and turned the ball over two times.

KC's defense did its best to match the offense's poor play as Bucs quarterbacks Josh Freeman and Josh Johnson rolled over the unit, combining to complete 16-of-25 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns (one passing and one rushing).

At least Haley could take solace in the fact that most of his starters either did not play or played just a handful of downs in the lopsided spectacle.

Baltimore put on a better face at Lincoln Financial Field last Thursday, but the result turned out the same with the Ravens falling 13-6 to the Eagles. John Harbaugh's troops threw for 206 yards and rushed for 107 in the loss, but two interceptions by rookie quarterback Tyrod Taylor doomed the exhibition opener.

Harbaugh was undeterred by the meaningless loss, and indicated after the game that his team should, once again, contend for a postseason spot. Or maybe he meant the Ravens ought to pound the Chiefs.

"I think we're a good football team," Harbaugh told reporters following the setback. "We have a chance to be great, but that is up to us. We should make our biggest improvements in the next week."
