The Rams new offense, which hit on all cylinders in the team's preseason opener, will get another test on Saturday night when the Tennessee Titans roll into the Edward Jones Dome. Both squads are looking to improve to 2-0 in exhibition play, but the oddsmakers see the Rams as the most likely undefeated candidate. St. Louis is presently listed as a -3.5 against the spread home favorite; the game total is set at 36 points with both the Over and Under drawing -110 odds. The Rams steamrolled the
Peyton Manning-less Colts 33-10 on Saturday, showing hardly any ill effects from lack of offseason work. St. Louis, which brought in former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels to run the offense, posted 21 first downs and 342 total yards in the blowout victory.
Sam Bradford picked up where he left off a season ago, completing 7-of-12 passes for 45 yards and one touchdown while helping the Rams to a 10-3 first quarter lead.
While the offense was impressive, St. Louis defense, which added a number of new faces through free agency, may have outperformed McDaniels' group. The Rams picked off three passes and limited the Colts to 12 first downs and 2-of-10 on third down.
The revamped Titans also experienced a number of firsts in last week's exhibition opener opposite the Vikings. Tennessee debuted a new head coach in Mike Munchak as well as two new quarterbacks in veteran Matt Hasselbeck and rookie Jake Locker.
All went well on almost all fronts for the Titans, which topped Minnesota 14-3 at LP Field in Nashville. Hasselbeck, who is penciled in as the team's starter, completed 5-of-6 passes for 55 yards while Locker connected on seven of his 10 pass attempts for 89 yards. Locker also hooked up with Yamon Figurs on a 45 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
Despite the big night from Locker, Hasselbeck saw to it that Munchak, a longtime assistant to former coach Jeff Fisher, got the game ball.
"This was a big night for him, probably a dream come true," Hasselbeck said after the game.
Munchak, no doubt, appreciated the gesture, but he was, perhaps, more pleased with the win.
"We all know it's a preseason game but no matter what you do, you want to win it," Munchak said.
