The defending champion Packers will shoot for their second consecutive preseason win on Friday night when they meet the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. The game, which is scheduled for an 8:00pm ET kickoff, will be broadcast live on CBS. NFL game lines have Green Bay listed as a huge -9 against the spread road favorite. Packers vs Colts odds at our NFL Odds page have Friday's game total set at 38.5 points.
The Colts first two preseason games probably instilled a certain amount of fear into
the team's fan base, which is reasonable considering Indy posted a grand total of 13 points and 466 yards without Peyton Manning under center.
Their level of fear, no doubt, reached new heights when the club inked veteran field general Kerry Collins earlier today. Not that Collins' presence is anything to shudder over, in fact, he should give fans some comfort as he is a significant upgrade over current backup Curtis Painter. However, the Colts move to add the former first round pick indicates that Manning's lingering neck injury may preclude him from appearing in the season opener.
Head Coach Jim Caldwell, while hoping greatly for Manning's return, must concentrate on the players he has available, though.
"You have to prepare with the folks you have, put your scheme together, (your) game-plan together, build it around individuals you have at this point in time and keep moving," Caldwell said.
With the regular season less than three weeks away, Caldwell needs "the folks" he has at his disposal to step up against Green Bay on Friday or the anxiety in Indianapolis could spill over into the locker room.
Slowing the Packers is no easy task, though, even if Manning and the team's banged up receiving corps were available. Aaron Rodgers and company proved as much in each of their first two exhibition games as they scored a combined 31 points in first half action against the Browns and Cardinals.
Rodgers was nearly flawless on each occasion, completing 6-of-8 passes for 74 yards and one touchdown against Cleveland while connecting on 9-of-12 passes for 97 yards and a score opposite Arizona.
