College Football Picks: Florida Gators vs Hawaii Warriors

by Abe Luciano on Saturday, August 30th, 2008

College Football Picks Florida Gators vs Hawaii Warriors: On Saturday, starting at 12:30 PM ET, the Hawaii Warriors will have their hands full when they face the #5 ranked Florida Gators at The Swamp in Gainesville, FL. This will mark the first meeting ever between these schools, and it will also be Greg McMackin’s debut as UH head coach. At BodogLife.com, the Florida Gators are (-35) overwhelming betting odds favorites against the visiting Hawaii Warriors (+35).

As the Gators kick off their 102nd collegiate football season, UF head coach Urban Meyer will be at the helm for a 4th year now.

Under coach Meyer, UF has gone an impressive 31-8; that’s a winning percentage of over 79.

Gregg McMackin, who will be coaching Hawaii for the first time, started as a defensive coordinator in 1999 and again in 2007. During those two seasons, the Warriors captured the Western Athletic Conference title, and were ranked among the best defenses in the nation.

The Hawaii Warriors are coming off a very successful (12-1) ’07 campaign, in which they participated for the first time (in school history) in a BCS game, as they went up against Georgia in the All-State Sugar Bowl.

Meanwhile, the Florida Gators are no strangers to success. Last season, they finished with a 9-4 record, which culminated in a disappointing 35-41 loss to Michigan in the Capital One Bowl. Just like last year, this season, the Gators will follow Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow’s lead. In 2007, Tebow was awarded with the Heisman, after beating out Arkansas Darren McFadden, and former UH QB Colt Brennan.
