The biggest news out of the Bears camp this week was the season ending injury to defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek. After suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, Dvoracek underwent arthroscopic surgery Friday.
"Right off the top of my head, I haven't seen a lot of players go through that," head coach Lovie Smith said. "Guys deal with injuries always. As much as anything, with Dusty, though, it's one thing to have injuries and they continue to linger. These are different things.
"He's getting things fixed. So really, once he comes back from this, he should be as good as ever, so he should still have all of his options open."
In Denver, there were also some personnel problems this week during practice. The Broncos suspended wide receiver Brandon Marshall for detrimental conduct all the way through September 5th. The disgruntled Pro Bowl has been demanding a trade and asking for a new contract for some time and coach Josh McDaniels had enough of his tantrums.
"We tried to handle this situation with Brandon as privately and professionally as we could throughout the entire process with he and his agent, Kennard McGuire," McDaniels said. "This morning, we made the decision as an organization to go ahead and suspend Brandon. We'll look forward to having him back on Sept. 6 as we begin our preparations for Cincinnati (in a Sept. 13 season opener).
