Giants vs Patriots Odds 2011 NFL Week 4 Preseason

by Matt Foust on Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Giants vs Patriots Odds 2011 NFL Week 4 Preseason: The New England Patriots, still licking their wounds from a 34-10 beating at the hands of the Lions last Saturday, will host the New York Giants on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium. The preseason finale, which is scheduled for a 7:10pm ET kickoff, will represent the first meeting between the two squads since they squared off in Super Bowl XLII. The latest Giants vs Patriots odds available at our NFL Odds page have New England listed as a heavy -7.5 against the spread favorite; the Over/Under is set at 39.5 points.

New England, normally one Giants vs Patriots Odds 2011 NFL Week 4 Preseasonof the more dominant preseason teams, probably left Ford Field scratching its head after Detroit blasted its way to a 34-10 victory last weekend. The only thing that went right for the Patriots in the drubbing was a 44 yard touchdown hook up between Tom Brady and Wes Welker.

Brady finished the evening with a 71.2 passer rating after completing just 12 of his 22 pass attempts for 145 yards. The two-time MVP also negated his lone touchdown pass by throwing an interception which the Lions took just five plays to convert into seven points of their own.

Brady, who was sacked twice and hit seven times in the loss, sounded as though the team would move on from the poor performance rather quickly.

"You're not going to win games if you play like that," Brady said. "There's only one way to get better — just get out to practice and get back to work, try to improve the things we didn't do very well and hopefully play better next week."

The Giants, which will travel to New England again on November 6th, did not look much better on Monday night when they fell 17-3 to the Jets. As rough an evening as Brady had on Saturday night, Eli Manning had it worse on Monday as he connected on just 15 of his 30 pass attempts and threw two costly interceptions.

Manning's struggles canceled out a solid effort from the Giants' defense, which held the Jets to 233 total yards, and a rushing attack that amassed 105 yards in 25 carries.

The Jets/Giants game, which was pushed back to Monday due to Hurricane Irene, probably rendered New York's starters useless for tomorrow's game. Head Coach Tom Coughlin stated as much at yesterday's conference call. When asked if he had thought about not playing the starters at all opposite New England, the coach replied: "Under these circumstances, yes."

If that is the case, an early lead for the Pats may be all they need to get a cover in this one, even with the spread at 7.5 points.
