NFL Week 1 Predictions 2011: With the focus primarily on against the spread winners and losers, football bettors occasionally miss out on weekly prop bet action that can line the pockets as well as anything else. Proposition bets are similar to eating at a buffet, not everything on the spread is worth checking out, but there are usually enough quality items (depending upon the establishment) to warrant a walk through the door. The latest NFL Week 1 Predictions 2011 feature a host of potentially lucrative prop samplings, two of which have been conveniently laid out below.
Vikings vs Chargers – Will Either Team
Score in the First Seven Minutes of the Game: Yes (-135), No (+105)
Last season either the Chargers or their opposition scored within seven minutes in five of the team's eight home games. Not a single time last year did a Chargers home game feature a scoreless first quarter. The latest first quarter score in a 2010 Chargers home game came at the 4:45 mark of the opening frame in a 41-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals. The Yes, at -135 odds, looks appealing here given the Chargers quick strike ability and their propensity for scoring early and often as a host.
Saints vs Packers – Margin of Victory: Packers Win by 7-10 Points (+700)
Green Bay is 8-2 in its last 10 home games against a non-divisional opponent. The Packers won those eight games by an average of 22.3 points per contest; however, against playoff caliber competition, like the Saints, that average dropped to 9.7 points per game (Margin of victory 10, 6, and 13 points). New Orleans last three road losses came by the exact same totals: 10, 6, and 13 points. Obviously this is a riskier play, hence the greater reward ($700 return for every $100 wagered on a winning play). Take the 7-10 point margin of victory for Green Bay or go really big and take the Packers by 22 or more points at +1300 odds. Regardless, just make sure you take the Packers in this matchup between the last two Super Bowl winners.
