Bills vs Chiefs Odds NFL Week 1 Predictions: The Buffalo Bills will head to the Heartland this week to open the 2011 season against the defending AFC West champion Chiefs. Sunday's game between the two old AFL rivals is scheduled for a 1:00pm ET kickoff at Arrowhead Stadium. NFL Week 1 Predictions have Kansas City listed as a -5.5 against the spread home favorite; the Over/Under for the game is set at 39.5.
It has been almost seven years since the
Buffalo Bills produced a winning record, but the franchise hopes to change that this season, despite dealing with a schedule that ranks as one of the more difficult in the NFL.
The Bills prospects of a 1-0 start were dealt a blow when they drew a Chiefs squad that went 7-1 at home in the regular season last year. Granted, Kansas City is not without its problems, but Buffalo, which has lost five of its last six road games to open a season, will find it difficult to slip past the Chiefs in front of a raucous opening day crowd.
Last year when these two teams met in Kansas City, the Chiefs needed overtime to procure a 13-10 victory, but Todd Haley's troops rushed for a staggering 274 yards on 45 attempts. The Chiefs also sacked Bills signal caller Ryan Fitzpatrick three times and hit him on seven other occasions.
Buffalo may be catching KC at the right time, though. The Chiefs looked dreadful, once again, in the preseason, posting an 0-4 record, and their last exhibition outing, a 20-19 loss at Green Bay proved painful in more ways than one.
Quarterback Matt Cassel cracked a rib in the setback when the Packers Howard Green sacked him early in the second quarter. Cassel is slated to play on Sunday, but who knows if another big hit will take him out of the Bills game or, perhaps, several future games.
Tight end Tony Moeaki, one of the key pieces in the Chiefs offensive attack, was not as fortunate as Cassel; the second year pro was lost for the season when he tore his ACL at Lambeau.
Look for the Chiefs to keep things conservative against Buffalo due to Cassel's injury. A number of double tight end sets could be employed to help facilitate another strong rushing performance. If Kansas City ends up in third and long situations, expect a number of screens, draws, and quick dumps to the flat.
Kansas City should win this game, but a Bills cover is not out of the question. Neither is an under 39.5 total.
