Eagles vs Rams Odds NFL Week 1 Picks: The favorite to win the NFC East, the Philadelphia Eagles, begin their 2011 campaign with a road trip to the Show Me State. Michael Vick and company are slated to face the up and coming Rams in a week one battle at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. Sunday's game between the two NFC squads is scheduled for a 1:00pm ET kickoff on Fox. The latest Eagles vs Rams odds have Philadelphia listed as a -4.5 against the spread road favorite; the game total is set at 44 points.
Philadelphia, a 10-6 division winner last
season, garnered more attention than any team in the league during the brief offseason as it signed a plethora of big name free agents. Among the additions were Vince Young (QB), Ronnie Brown (RB), Cullen Jenkins (DT), Jason Babin (DE), Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (CB), and Nnamdi Asomugha (CB).
Despite all the attention and big expectations, the Eagles, including last season's 21-16 Wild Card setback against the Packers, ride a three game losing streak into Sunday's meeting with the Rams.
Philadelphia, which went 2-3 against the spread as a road favorite last year, will also have its hands full with a Rams team that won five of its eight home games last season.
St. Louis was also busy upgrading its roster in the offseason, adding several quality players such as Jerious Norwood (RB), Cadillac Williams (RB), Mike Sims-Walker (WR), Harvey Dahl (G), and Quintin Mikell (S).
The Rams enter the regular season on a high note after posting a 4-0 mark in exhibition play. While the preseason is seldom an indicator of how a team will perform when the real action gets underway, quarterback Sam Bradford's exhibition efforts suggested that a sophomore swoon is not in the offing. Bradford completed 31-of-54 passes for 411 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions (99.1 passer rating) in four preseason games.
The Rams defense, which played well last season, especially at home (17.6 points per game allowed), will face a diffcult challenge in slowing Vick and the Eagles multi-dimensional offense, though. Philadelphia averaged a staggering 32.8 points per game on the road last season while earning victories over Detroit, Jacksonville, San Francisco, Washington, Dallas, and New York (Giants).
St. Louis getting 4.5 points still seems like the right side, but the over 44 is probably the better play. The average game score in the Eagles eight away contests last season was an eye popping 59.4.
