NFL Predictions Week 1: After reloading for another historic championship run, the New England Patriots will enter the season as the clear NFL Betting Odds favorites to win the 2012 Super Bowl. A disappointing loss at the hands of the Rex Ryan and the New York Jets forced the Pats to go out and get as many available big-name players as possible, and that’s exactly what they did.
Literally, the biggest acquisition this offseason for Bill Belichick & Co. was brining the self-proclaimed “sleeping
giant” to Foxborough. Looking to find a steady home, Albert Haynesworth could have asked for a better position to be in than with the Patriots.
But the 6-foot-6, 350-pound defensive tackle will have to get his act together quick in order to remain in Belichick’s good side. Known as a no nonsense type of coach, the smallest hint of drama might bring a great break like this to an end for the troubled Haynesworth.
Looking to put his last two seasons in Washington behind him, the 2-time Pro Bowler is itching to prove things are very different now in New England. As many may recall, Haynesworth was suspended, without pay, by Mike Shanahan for problematic behavior. Thus, the 2002 first round draft pick didn’t play at all in the last 4 weeks of the season.
“At least last year, I didn’t think I was going to play,” he said. “I was playing a lot of scout team. So now I’m in this system and I’m playing and practicing and stuff, and I think it’s time for … I guess, the sleeping giant to awake and to go back out there on my field and play football again.”
Haynesworth will get his first opportunity on the big stage, as the Pats travel to Sun Life Stadium to take on the Fins Monday Night. According to NFL Odds makers, the New England Patriots [-7] will enter this contest as the sports betting odds favorites by at least a touchdown and an extra point over the Miami Dolphins [+7]. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 7 PM ET on ESPN.
My NFL Predictions Week 1 for the Patriots vs Dolphins: I do believe Haynesworth wants to be here and wants to become a Pro Bowler once again. With plenty left in the tank, the difference between a dominating season and another disastrous season is as big as the space between his ears. If Haynesworth can stay in the game, mentally, watch out with the Patriots! I get the feeling he will from the start and thus, I like the Patriots by a blowout in South Florida!
