Jets GM Tannenbaum Takes Blame for Brett Favre Injury: It’s not like Brett Favre didn’t already have enough attention with just days away from retuning to his former NFC North Division to make everyone’s life a living hell, that now he’s making life difficult for his former AFC team. After opening up a can of worms by revealing that the New York Jets organization basically forced him to play injured last season, the teams general managers is speaking out on Favre’s allegations.
Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum has publicly acknowledged that he made a mistake by chosing not to list the 39-year-old’s biceps tendon injury last season in the team’s injury report.
"As the GM of this team, I should have handled that differently and listed him on the report. We didn't, just because he wasn't getting treatment every day and we knew he was going to play," Tannenbaum said. "But looking back now, I should have listed him as probable and we didn't. I'll take reponsibility for that."
Thus, Tannenbaum and the Jets could face disciplinary action from the league. All the hoopla began when Favre made the following comments:
"I was receptive to (sitting) last year," Favre said during a news conference Wednesday. "When we finally did an MRI and found out I had a torn biceps last year, I felt like, with about four or five games left, that even though I was making some pretty good throws and some decent plays, I felt like I was doing the team more harm because I was missing on some throws.
"They knew I had a torn biceps, which we backed off in practice. I took cortisone shots a couple times to try to relieve the pain. I started pressing."
