Thank goodness for Adrian Peterson, that 
had to be the sentiment anyway after the Vikings 24-17 season opening loss at San Diego last Sunday. Minnesota's rushing attack led by the aforementioned Peterson accounted for 159 of the team's 187 total yards at Qualcomm Stadium.
If you assumed those numbers meant that Donovan McNaab had a less than stellar debut with his new club, you would be correct. McNaab completed seven of his 15 pass attempts for 39 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in route to a 47.9 passer rating. That's a whopping 1.7 yards per pass folks, which, to no one's surprise, is not going to cut it in the NFL.
The picture is bound to get a little sunnier for McNaab and the Vikings this weekend, though, even if the game will be played inside a dome. The Bucs possess a solid pass defense, but it is not the equal of San Diego's unit, which ranked first in the league last season in pass yards per game allowed (177.8).
Matthew Stafford had little difficulty dissecting Tampa's secondary last weekend as he threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns in the Lions 27-20 upset, if you want to call it that (+1 before kickoff), at Raymond James Stadium.
Minnesota will not have to deal with the Chargers occasionally self destructive, but always dangerous offense, either. Granted, the Bucs have some weapons, including a rising star in quarterback Josh Freeman, but, as they demonstrated against Detroit, they do not possess the league's most efficient offense (17 first downs, 315 total yards).
This has all the makings of a close game, but the edge goes to the Vikings and Peterson at home.
