West Virginia vs Maryland Line 2011 College Football Picks Week 3: The No. 20 West Virginia Mountaineers play their first road contest of 2011 when they land in College Park, Md., for a game with the Maryland Terrapins. Both WVU and Maryland have new coaches; the Mountaineers plucking Oklahoma State's Offensive Coordinator Dana Holgorsen while Maryland looked to the Big East and hired Connecticut's Randy Edsall. College Football Odds has the Terps listed slight 1-chalk favorite with a 54 1/2 over/under total for this game. Maryland is also the favorite among college football picks experts.
West Virginia is 2-0 SU and 0-1 ATS, beating Marshall SU in Week-1, but falling short of covering the 23-point favorite's line. Their game with Norfolk State was not lined by most sports shops. The Terps took the week off after defeating the Miami Hurricanes SU 32-24, easily covering ATS as -3 1/2 point favorites.
Against Miami in their season opener, the Terps piled up 499 yards of total offense, forced four turnovers and scored twice defensively in the win. QB Danny O'Brien, the 2010 ACC Rookie of the Year, and three linemen headline the five starters back on an offense which ranked 29th in the FBS in scoring (32.2 ppg) and tied for fifth nationally in fewest turnovers (15) in 2010. O'Brien picked up where he left off last season by completing 31 of 44 passes for 348 yards, the second-highest total of his career, vs. the Hurricanes.
West Virginia is going to get a better read on just what type of football team it has against a Maryland squad that is returning several key players from last season's team that won nine games and defeated East Carolina in the Military Bowl. The Mountaineers are very familiar with what Edsall did during his years at UConn, but Edsall has brought several different coaches with him to College Park and what the Terps showed against Miami was a departure from the possession, ball-control style he used with the Huskies.
The Terps have lost their last five meetings with West Virginia. A Mountaineers victory Saturday would tie for the longest win streak in the series by either team. Maryland was impressive in their opening win versus quality opposition like Miami. The Mountaineers could be in for a surprise: My College Football Odds Week 3 Pick – Terps -1.
