NFL Predictions Week 2

by Abe Luciano on Saturday, September 17th, 2011

NFL Predictions Week 2: By far the biggest offseason acquisition for the Miami Dolphins was bringing former USC Trojan Reggie Bush to South Florida. After 4 years in the Big Easy in which he did everything well except run the ball, the Fins still decided to play him as a traditional running back. This is a move that had very little success in Miami’s, 24-38, loss to the New England Patriots.

As the Dolphins prepare to welcome the much-improved Houston Texans this season, head coach Tony Sparano NFL Predictions Week 2is ready to make some adjustments in the way Bush will be utilized in Week 2. According to NFL Predictions Week 2 experts, the (1-0-0) Houston Texans [-3] will go into Sun Life Stadium as the NFL Odds favorites to defeat the (0-1-0) Miami Dolphins [+3]. This game tips off Sunday afternoon at 4:20 PM ET.

This week, Sparano told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that Bush’s 75 snaps against the Pats was way too many for his taste, especially considering the former second overall pick has proven to be injury-prone since turning pro. Other reports indicate that the Dolphins expect Bush to go down before the mid-point of the 2011 season if his touches aren’t cut down significantly.

Nevertheless, the 26-year-old Bush believes he can handle being an every-down player in the NFL.

“I try to make the most of my opportunities, whether it’s inside the tackles or outside the tackles,” said the fifth-year pro. “I don’t think you can say that, you know, if you continue to run a guy between the tackles, he’s going to get hurt. You look at Walter Payton, he was only 200 pounds. I’m not saying I’m Walter Payton, but I’m just saying that I don’t have a crystal ball. I don’t know what the exact number is or how many times I should run the ball.”

My NFL Predictions Week 2 for the Texans vs Dolphins: I actually really like Miami to pull off the upset at home over the Texans. The key with Reggie Bush is to get the guy in the open field and let him go to work and make defenders miss. Bush is not and will never be a real halfback in the NFL. The Fins just have to wrap their heads around that concept. The physical abuse that running backs take isn’t something that Bush can handle with his size. If they can get this guy the ball with some green a read of him, he’s unstoppable. If they continue to play him like a traditional HB, he will not last in Miami.
