Atlanta, a team many believe will Eagles vs Falcons Odds 2011 Sunday Night Football Linesrepresent the NFC in Super Bowl XLVI, did not look all that impressive in last week's opener as it fell 30-12 to Chicago at Soldier Field. The Falcons, which came into the game as a 2.5 favorite, fell in a huge hole early, forcing them away from Michael Turner and the ground game that is so integral to their success.

Matt Ryan, who threw 47 passes in the loss, paid for the team's early miscues as the Bears unloaded on the Boston College product without the threat of a ground game. Ryan was sacked five times and hit on 11 other occasions; his 76.5 passer rating reflected the pressure Chicago so adequately provided.

Tonight's game figures to chart a much different course with the Falcons playing at the Gerogia Dome. Atlanta typically plays much better at home where it is 20-5 since drafting Ryan. However, the Eagles present a number of problems both offensively and defensively.

Philadelphia can also get after the quarterback, which it proved in last week's 31-13 thrashing of the Rams in St. Louis. The Eagles, like Chicago, produced five sacks and 11 quarterback hits. The team's ability to create pressure works hand in hand with a talent laden secondary. In other words, Atlanta cannot abandon the running game tonight, even if it does find itself in an early hole.

As scary as the defense can be, the Vick led offense presents even more matchup nightmares for the Falcons. Atlanta ranked 22nd in pass defense last season, giving up an average of 226.6 yards per game through the air. The Eagles, albeit with Kevin Kolb under center, played a part it raising that 2010 average as they threw for 320 yards in smoking the Falcons 31-17 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Prediction: The Eagles offense is simply too much for Atlanta to contain here. While I like the Falcons to keep the game close, if for no other reason than they play a better brand of football at home, they lose to Philly tonight. The 2.5 point line is somewhat scary, though, as this could come down to a field goal.
