New York Jets vs San Diego Chargers Monday Night Football

by Steve Hastings on Monday, September 22nd, 2008

N.Y. Jets vs San Diego Chargers Monday Night Football: The Jets are 1-1 on the season, they are coming off a home loss last week to New England 19-10.  The Jets, slight favorites going in, and Patriots receiver Randy Moss said New England was still the team to beat even without Brady.  Jets RB LaMont Jordan had all 62 of his yards rushing in the second half for the Patriots.  The Jets don't look like they will have what it takes to win this game, however if Favre guns it 60 to 65 % of the game he may be able to pull it off.  The oddsmakers at Betus.com currently have the San Diego Chargers -9 favorites to N.Y. Jets heading into this Monday Night Football Game.

The Jets were in the red zone a couple of time last week against the Pats, but they decided to run the ball on all three downs.

New York Jets vs San Diego Chargers Monday Night Football"There's no guarantees throwing the ball would've worked," Favre said.  "Do I like my chances?  Absolutely.  But I'm going to say that no matter what.  You know, people can call it conservative or whatever.  Had we run the ball in on one of those three, they're great calls."

This is a rematch of the of '04 Wild Card game.  No one could except that the Chargers would be 0-2 ATS and SU to start the season.  Not only did they have a heart breaking loss in game against Carolina losing on the last play of the game, but last week was worse.  Trailing 38-31, the Broncos reached the 1 but on second-and-goal, Cutler reared back to throw and the ball slipped out of his hands, bounced off the grass and into linebacker Tim Dobbins' arms.

Referee Ed Hochuli blew his whistle when the ball came out, ruling it an incomplete pass.  A review showed that it should have been ruled a fumble.  Instant replay rules, however, don't allow the opponent to gain possession in such situations.  They ended up losing the game to Denver 39-38 as Denver went for a two point conversion at the end of the game instead to tie with field goal.  Betus.com set the total in the Monday Night Football game between the Jets vs Chargers game set at 44.5 points.

"It was clearly a fumble," Chargers coach Norv Turner said.  "Ed came over, the official, and said he blew it. And that's not acceptable to me.  This is a high-level performance game and that's not acceptable to have a game decided on that play."

Monday Night Football Predictions: Chargers have to be sick in the gut after another last minute loss.  The Chargers are sandwiched between division rivals Denver and Oakland.  Don’t be shocked if there are a few key make-up calls from last week’s striped incompetence which keyed (along with a Merriman-less defense) the loss to Denver.  I have to admit I was possibly a critic of the off-season Favre debacle, but there is no other fan as happy as I that he did play another season and Monday night seems to bring out the best in him.  Over is 4-0 in Jets last 4 games in Week 3.  Over is 5-0 in Chargers last 5 games in September.  I'm going to have a Top Play on the side in this game tonight.  Last week I brought home the bacon all covered in grease with the side and total Philadelphia/Dallas matchup and I will win this big prime-time play again.  Get on board with me and check out my NFL Predictions.
