New Orleans Saints Jeremy Shockey Out 3-6 Weeks: One of the best tight ends in the NFL today, Jeremy Shockey of the New Orleans Saints, is expected miss approximately 3-6 weeks because of a sports hernia. In his first year after being traded from the Super Bowl champs New York Giants, Shockey had become Drew Breese’s second leading receiver with 16 receptions for 151 yards in 3 games.

In Sunday’s 32-34 loss at the Denver Broncos Shockey caught 5 passes for a total of 56 yards. On Week 4 of the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers travel to the big easy to take on the New Orleans Saints at 1 PM ET Sunday.

On Monday afternoon, it was announced by Saints spokesperson Greg Bensel that the big tight end was scheduled to have surgery this week.

For Shockey, this marks the second serious injury suffered in as many seasons.

Last December, Shockey broke his left leg and missed the New York Giants entire postseason run, which culminated on a Super Bowl championship.

Furthermore, with Shockey’s absence this makes the Saints receiving core even thinner, especially with the loss of Marques Colston in Week 1. Over the last two seasons, Colston has led the Saints in receiving. The stellar WR needed surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb and is not expected back for 4 weeks or so. The OVER/UNDER this NFL Week 4 game between the San Francisco 49ers vs. New Orlans Sants has been set at a combined 48.5 points.
