The Bengals beat the Baltimore Ravens 15-10 last week but despite the W they look awfully flat on the offensive side of the ball for the second week in a row. Now they better step it up and should do better if they want to be a NFL playoffs team. QB Carson Palmer threw for 167 yards but he failed to command his team to the end zone against a hard Baltimore defense. Also RB Cedric Benson ran for 78 yards failing to reach the 100 yards mark for the second game in a row.
Many people believe the best Palmer´s years are far behind him, others think he never had those years and people like me think he is a good QB with too high expectations for his limited talent. What I mean is he can move the ball but don´t expect him to be Brady or Manning on the field but at least within this game he will be able to put some points on the scoreboard.
The Panthers on the other side have QB issues; Coach John Fox named the rookie Jimmy Clausen the starter above Matt Moore, who had two terrible weeks against the New York Giants and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was benched for those horrible performances. Clausen to me is the best QB in the 2010 rookie class, he performed under a high profile offense at Notre Dame and is use to complicated playbooks, so he won´t be all that far from the reality of the pros. The bad news is that he will debut against a hard hitting defense that seems to have found their “mojo” back against the Ravens last week.
Keep in mind the Bengals are 1-10 ATS as a favorite, 4-8 ATS off a division game and 5-12 straight up in road games. The Panthers are 14-10 ATS when playing with 6 or less days rest and 5-3 ATS in non-conference games.
