Washington Redskins vs Detroit Lions NFL Predictions Week 3

by Abe Luciano on Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Washington Redskins vs. Detroit Lions NFL Predictions Week 3: Two last place NFC teams will collide under the Ford Field roof, as the (1-1) Washington Redskins pay a visit to the (0-2) Detroit Lions on Sunday. This game has a scheduled opening kickoff slated for 1 PM ET, as the Washington Redskins [-6½] will enter this contest as the sports betting odds favorites to keep the hosting Detroit Lions [+6½] winless for yet another NFL Predictions Week.

For Washington, listed as Probable this week will be (T) Mike Williams who was out in practice with an undisclosed illness. Meanwhile, (QB) Jason Campbell out due to a foot injury, and (DT) Anthony Montgomery was also unavailable to practice this week because of a knee injury.  It’s worth noting that Campbell comes into this game with his two best passer ratings being against the Detroit Lions. Also, the OVER/UNDER for this, Washington Redskins vs. Detroit Lions NFL Predictions Week 3 game has been officially set at a combined total of 38½ points scored.

The last time these teams met dates back to last season’s Week 8, when the Redskins defeated the Lions 25-17. One of the biggest plays and subsequently keys to that victory was the effort on the part of Santana Moss, who dazzled with an 80-yard punt-return for a touchdown. Washington has won three consecutive games against Detroit, but will the streak continue on Sunday?

Last NFL Predictions Week, the Redskins were barely able to get an ugly win over the Rams 9-7 without any touchdowns. Washington head coach, Jim Zorn, has been feeling the pressure as he’s certainly on the hot seat. It’s going to be interesting to see if he will make any changes offensively for this upcoming game. With Zorn as coach, the Redskins have averaged 16 points in over 18 games and have scored only one touchdown this NFL Predictions season.

Despite playing a good first half last week, Detroit was not able to get a much-needed win over the visiting Minnesota Vikings, losing 27-13. Thus, the Lions have not won since December 23rd of 2007, when they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 25-20.

As they struggle to get out of this painful drought, the Lions are looking at the No.1 overall pick, quarterback Matthew Stafford, to show what he can do to contribute. Nevertheless, the young Stafford has struggled significantly at the role of starter, throwing five interceptions to his lonely touchdown. Stafford comes into this NFL Predictions Week 3 listed as the lowest rated starting quarterback in the league.

On the bright side for the Detroit is (LB) Larry Foote. The 8th year man out of Michigan has proven that he can play his part, registering 19 tackles and a sack in just two games.
