NFL Week 4 Spreads

NFL Week 4 Spreads: Through three weeks of play, it looks as though a changing of the guard might be taking place in the AFC, if not the entire league. Several perennial bottom feeders now look like formidable teams while a number of recent powers appear to be teetering on the brink. This weekend will present at least two up and comers with a significant challenge; if they answer the call, it is safe to assume they will be knocking on the playoff door come December. Buffalo Bills vs Cincinnati Bengals (+3): NFL Week 4 SpreadsBengals? Significant challenge? Don't scoff just yet. The Bills are coming off back-to-back home games, including a highly emotional divisional battle with the Patriots, a team they had not beat since September of 2003. This is the perfect spot for a Buffalo letdown. And Cincinnati, despite its 1-2 record, can play defense. Granted, the Bengals have not faced an offensive murderer's row in the Browns, Broncos, and 49ers, but through three weeks they are yielding just 18 points and 276.3 yards per game. Suffice it to say that Cincinnati will pose more problems to the Bills offense than New England's porous defense. The Bills do own a 10 game win streak over the Bengals, but Sunday's game between the two franchises seems like a perfect situation for a home dog cover.

New England Patriots vs Oakland Raiders (+4): The Raiders are a fourth quarter collapse away from a 3-0 record and their Darren McFadden led offense has looked scary over the last two weeks. The Jets had no answer for McFadden on Sunday as he ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Nothing about the Patriots defense, at least through three games, would suggest they are capable of stopping Run DMC this weekend. New England wins shootouts because of Tom Brady, but when the Pats turn the ball over they lose because Bill Belichick's defense cannot stop anyone. The Patriots are certainly capable of outscoring the Raiders, but there is every reason to believe Oakland can hang with Brady and company, especially at home.
