College Football Lines 2011 Week 5

College Football Lines 2011 Week 5: Each Saturday of any college football season seems to have its own name. Week-1 is Cup-Cake Saturday; second week of October is Red River Rivalry and so on. I always call Week-5 – College Football Odds Money Week. By the fifth week, bettors of college football should have their handicapping game honed where not to get caught off guard with surprises. In sports gambling there are always surprises, but at least they're kept to a minimum. So we ask ourselves; what have we learned about the 2011 college football season? We compile those answers and employ our month’s worth of knowledge into our wagers; and Week-5 of 2011 looks to be a good one. Here we will focus on the Thursday and Friday College Football Lines card.

College Football Lines 2011 Week 5Speaking of surprises; how can we ever forget Week-5 in 2009 Case Keenum and his Houston Cougars went to El Paso for a game with the UTEP Miners. Ranked 12th in the polls, the Cougars rolled into Sun Bowl Stadium as double-digit road favorites. What Houston failed to realize; they had to play a game. The Cougars must have left their brains back in Harris County because the Miners hammered Keenum and his team mates sending them home smarting from a 58-41 loss. We can be sure this more mature 2011 version of the Houston Cougars (4-0), will have their heads screwed on straight Thursday night (8 p.m. ET, CBSC) when they play return to El Paso (2-2) as 16 1/2-chalk favorites.

Bettors will have to make a choice what game to watch Thursday because the 16th ranked South Florida Bulls (4-0) and Pitt Panthers (2-2) share the spotlight in the same time frame on ESPN. Undefeated through four games, the Bulls are listed offshore as 2-chalk favorites on the BetOnline.com college football odds board.

One game is listed for Friday's betting card; a regional rivalry contest between the Aggies of Utah State and BYU Cougars to be played at Lavell Edwards Stadium on the BYU campus in Provo, Utah. This game is expected to be closely contested and BetOnline.com lists it as such giving BYU a slight 6 1/2-chalk edge. If you remember, it was the Aggies who practically had Auburn beat in Week-1. This year’s squad is much improved from previous campaigns. ESPN will broadcast this game at 8 p.m. ET.
