NFL Week 5 Predictions on the Philadelphia Eagles vs San Francisco 49ers Odds: Sunday Night football features two week 4 losing teams as the Philadelphia Eagles visit Candlestick Park to take on the San Francisco 49ers at 8:30 PM ET. The Eagles vs. 49ers NFL Point Spread have the 49ers -3 at BETUS.com
First of all, to be honest I don't know what these two teams are doing in primetime. I guess someone in the league thought the 49ers were going to be good while they were doing the schedule. San Francisco has been such a disappointment this season that it is actually hard to describe what is going on with the 49ers. Last week in the 14-16 loss against the Atlanta Falcon QB Alex Smith had another mediocre performance as he threw for 188 yards, two interceptions but just drove his team to one score. How much of Alex Smith can we take? I don't know, what I do know is that at some points the offensive coordinators are not the problem anymore.
RB Frank Gore is not playing at his best lever either after he recorded 77 yards with no score at Atlanta and he is not even in the top ten of running backs with the best performances overall this season. Gore will face one of the worse defenses stopping the run (Eagles rank 27 th in the league) and if he doesn't get a huge performance we might say good bye to the 49ers possibility to reach a playoffs spot.
The Eagles on the other hand have also issues at the QB and RB position after their starters Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy got injured in the lost 17-12 against the Washington Redskins. Both are questionable for this game but I'm almost sure they will be out. If that happens then Kevin Kolb will be taking the snaps at San Francisco, the problem for them is that he has shown almost nothing to be excited in the two half games he has played this season. Actually it has been so awful that many people are wondering if they made a huge mistake of letting Donovan McNabb go to Washington.
Consider the Eagles are 0-3 ATS against conference opponents this season but 5-1 ATS against NFC West division opponents over the past three seasons. The 49ers are 1-6 ATS in weeks 5 through 9 in the last three years.
