NFL Week 5 Spreads & 2010 NFL Picks

by Abe Luciano on Friday, October 8th, 2010

NFL Week 5 Spreads & 2010 NFL Picks: The New Orleans Saints [-7] received the news on Wednesday that cornerback Tracy Porter will be out three to four weeks. The news comes right before the start of Week 5, when the Saints are preparing for their match-up against the sports betting odds underdog Arizona Cardinals [+7].

Porter is recovering from arthroscopic surgery that repaired a lateral meniscus in his left knee. He was injured last Sunday against the Carolina Panthers during a quarterback scramble with Jimmy Clausen. Porter left the game after the play but returned shortly after.

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton said that since Porter had to have surgery, the Saints resigned cornerback Leigh Torrence. Payton also mentioned that Chris Reis was also placed on the injured reserve list, after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.

Reis is a backup safety and special teams contributor. The Saints are currently 3-1 and will now face the Cardinals, who are also dealing with changes of their own. Arizona will be starting undrafted rookie quarterback Max Hall this weekend for the first time.

They are hoping the change will give their offense the spark it needs, as their offense ranks 31st in the NFL. The Cardinals are 2-2, and will have Hall replace Derek Anderson. In his last two games, Anderson threw three touchdowns and five interceptions.

Last weekend, Hall came into the San Diego Chargers game in the second quarter, and completed 8 of 14 passes for 82 yards and lost a fumble.
